Met zijn werk wil Erwin Wurm (°1954, Oostenrijk) objecten van hun vertrouwelijke context bevrijden en hun nieuwe betekenissen geven. Met zijn bekende reeks One Minute Sculptures stelt hij fundamentele vragen over kunst, cultuur en onze vertrouwelijke omgang met voorwerpen. In zijn zoektocht doorheen verschillende media, kan alles de status van kunstwerk krijgen: acties, geschreven of getekende instructies of zelfs een gedachte. Het werk van Wurm refereert naar alledaagse, zelfs banale, situaties en handelingen en doet ons met een frisse blik naar de werkelijkheid kijken.
Voor de tentoonstelling in STUK zal Wurm op maat van de expozaal een aantal nieuwe installaties creëren. Volgens instructies van Wurm worden bezoekers uitgenodigd om met de tentoongestelde objecten te interageren.

Erwin Wurm liberates objects from their familiar context and gives them new meaning. Objects acquirei llogical shapes and appearances which raise fundamental questions about art, culture and the truth we take for granted. In his exploration of sculpture through different media anything can become sculpture: actions, written or drawn instructions, or even a thought. His art often treats elementary as well as banal life needs and actions.
The exhibition at STUK shows a series of new installations that have been made for the specific exhibition space. Following the artists' instructions visitors are invited to interact with the displayed objects.
